Your vehicle’s suspension does much more than provide a comfortable ride. It plays an important role in steering, handling, braking and keeping your tyres in consistent contact with the road. When suspension components begin to wear, you may notice changes in the way your car feels long before a component fails completely. At Prior's Automotive Kapunda our experienced mechanics can inspect your vehicle’s suspension and identify worn or damaged components before they develop into bigger problems. What Does Your Car’s Suspension Do? Your suspension system is made up of a range of components that work together to keep your vehicle stable and controlled. Depending on your vehicle, these can include shock absorbers, struts, springs, control arms, bushes, ball joints and other steering and suspension components. Over time, these parts can wear due to kilometres travelled, road conditions, heavy loads and general everyday driving. If you regularly travel on country roads, unsealed roads or rough surfaces around Kapunda and the Mid North, keeping an eye on your suspension is particularly important. 7 Signs Your Suspension May Need Attention 1. Your Car Feels Bouncy If your vehicle continues bouncing after travelling over a bump or feels less settled than it used to, worn shock absorbers or struts may be contributing to the problem. 2. The Vehicle Pulls to One Side A vehicle that consistently pulls or drifts to one side can have several possible causes, including wheel alignment, tyre or suspension problems. An inspection can help determine what is actually causing the issue. 3. Uneven Tyre Wear Uneven or unusually rapid tyre wear shouldn't be ignored. Worn suspension components or incorrect wheel alignment can change the way your tyres contact the road, causing certain areas of the tread to wear faster. 4. Knocking or Clunking Noises Hearing knocking, clunking or rattling when travelling over bumps, turning or entering driveways can indicate movement or wear somewhere within the steering or suspension system. 5. Your Car Dips When Braking If the front of your vehicle noticeably dives when you apply the brakes, particularly during harder braking, it may be worth having the suspension inspected. 6. Steering Feels Different Loose, vague or unusually heavy steering can sometimes be associated with steering or suspension wear. Any noticeable change in how your vehicle responds should be investigated. 7. Your Car Sits Unevenly If one corner of your vehicle appears lower than the others when parked on level ground, there could be a problem with a spring or another suspension component. Why You Shouldn't Ignore Suspension Problems Suspension wear tends to develop gradually, which means drivers can become accustomed to changes in their vehicle without realising how much its handling has deteriorated. Ignoring a suspension problem can potentially contribute to uneven tyre wear, reduced handling and additional strain on related components. Finding worn parts early can also help prevent a relatively straightforward repair from developing into a more expensive problem. Most importantly, your suspension contributes to keeping your vehicle predictable and controlled on the road. Suspension Checks for Country Driving Vehicles driven around Kapunda and throughout regional South Australia can encounter a wide variety of road conditions. Potholes, corrugations, gravel roads and frequent country driving can all place additional demands on tyres, steering and suspension components. If you regularly tow, carry heavy loads, drive a 4WD or spend significant time travelling on regional roads, periodic suspension inspections are a sensible part of maintaining your vehicle. Can Suspension Problems Cause Uneven Tyre Wear? Yes. Suspension and wheel alignment problems can both contribute to irregular tyre wear. If you've noticed one tyre wearing faster than another, excessive wear on the inside or outside edge of a tyre, or unusual tread patterns, don't simply replace the tyres without investigating why the wear occurred. Finding and correcting the underlying problem can help you get better life from your replacement tyres. Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Prior's Automotive Kapunda in Kapunda, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Prior's Automotive Kapunda, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Prior's Automotive Kapunda for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

With fuel prices constantly fluctuating, every litre counts. While many drivers focus on finding the cheapest fuel, one of the easiest ways to reduce fuel costs is by keeping your vehicle regularly serviced. At Prior's Automotive Kapunda, we help local drivers get the most from every tank by ensuring their vehicles are running at peak efficiency. Does Regular Servicing Really Save Fuel? Yes. A well-maintained vehicle doesn't have to work as hard to produce the same performance, meaning it uses less fuel. Simple maintenance items such as replacing dirty air filters, changing engine oil, checking tyre pressures, and ensuring your engine is correctly tuned can all contribute to improved fuel economy. Well-maintained vehicles can see measurable improvements in fuel efficiency over time. What Parts of a Service Improve Fuel Economy? During a routine service, our experienced technicians inspect and maintain components that directly affect how efficiently your engine operates, including: Engine oil and oil filter replacement Air filter inspection and replacement Spark plug inspection (where applicable) Fuel system checks Tyre pressure adjustment Wheel alignment inspection Engine diagnostics Brake inspection to ensure nothing is dragging unnecessarily Each of these items helps your engine operate more efficiently while reducing unnecessary strain on mechanical components. Under-inflated Tyres Waste Fuel One of the most overlooked causes of poor fuel economy is incorrect tyre pressure. Underinflated tyres create greater rolling resistance, forcing your engine to use more fuel just to maintain speed. Keeping your tyres inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure not only saves fuel but also extends tyre life and improves safety. Dirty Filters and Old Oil Cost You Money As engine oil ages, it loses its ability to lubricate moving parts effectively, increasing friction inside the engine. Likewise, a clogged air filter restricts airflow, making your engine work harder than necessary. Replacing these items during scheduled servicing helps restore efficiency and keeps your vehicle performing as it should. Small Problems Become Expensive Problems Ignoring scheduled servicing can allow small issues to develop into larger, more expensive repairs. Worn spark plugs, failing sensors, blocked filters or tyre wear can gradually reduce fuel economy without obvious warning signs. Regular servicing identifies these problems early, helping you save money on both fuel and future repairs. Driving Habits Matter Too Along with regular servicing, you can improve fuel efficiency by: Accelerating and braking smoothly. Maintaining steady speeds where possible. Removing unnecessary weight from your vehicle. Avoiding excessive idling. Keeping tyres properly inflated. Following your manufacturer's recommended service schedule. Keep Your Car Running Efficiently with Prior's Automotive Kapunda Whether you drive around Kapunda every day or regularly travel throughout the Barossa and Mid North, regular servicing is one of the smartest investments you can make. Our qualified technicians carry out comprehensive servicing designed to keep your vehicle reliable, safe and operating as efficiently as possible.
